2008 Jean Gimonnet Champagne Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs Millésimé 'La Guette'
2008 Champagne Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs La Guette is a serious insider Côte des Blancs Champagne from Jean Gimonnet, a quiet grower based in the Premier Cru village of Cuis. The Gimonnet family has worked vines in Champagne for generations, and Jean is known for a patient, old-school approach built around Chardonnay, chalky soils, long lees aging, and late disgorgement rather than flashy winemaking. La Guette comes from the estate's best Premier Cru parcels in Cuis and is 100% Chardonnay, giving the wine the focused citrus, floral lift, and mineral spine that define the village. The 2008 vintage is one of the great modern Champagne vintages, shaped by a cool season and slow ripening, producing wines with exceptional acidity, structure, and aging potential. This was initially disgorged in October of 2022, and a small lot has just been released from that disgorgement, in perfect condition. In the glass, it shows baked apple, pear, lemon zest, white flowers, shortbread, brioche, almond, chalk, and a firm saline finish. This is mature, beautifully structured Blanc de Blancs with the tension of 2008, the depth of extended lees aging, and the rarity factor that makes small-production grower Champagne like this increasingly hard to find. It's an outstanding buy for 2008 Champagne, and these are the only bottles currently available in the USA, so grab some before we sell out again!
