2022 Joseph Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Cailleret
Joseph Colin is part of the famed Colin family of Chassagne-Montrachet—Son of the revered Marc Colin and younger brother of the great Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. Joseph is naturally a great winemaker, having been born and raised in this lifestyle and having taken over Domaine Marc Colin with his two siblings at 19. Like Pierre-Yves, Joseph took part of his father's Domaine to start his journey, acquiring about 6 hectares. The plots he was given were among the best Chardonnay plots in Burgundy, one being En Caillerets, which comes from vines averaging 65 years old, with 50% sourced from 100-year-old vines from the top section of Caillerets. It's one of Joseph's best cuvées, and it is an exceptional example of this vintage, ranking among the best ever. We have a limited number available at this low pricing, making it one of the best buys for Caillerets this vintage!
Burghound 93 pts! A ripe and vaguely exotic nose features notes of both white and yellow peach, passion fruit and cool citrus rind wisps. The delicious and solidly concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess a seductive mid-palate texture before concluding in a powerful and focused mineral-driven finish that offers excellent length. This does need to develop better depth but the potential is clearly evident. One to look for. (Drink starting 2032)
Jasper Morris 92-95 pts! A glowing pale lime colour. Some restrained floral notes, but not demonstrative. On the palate there is a strong line of chalky white fruit, with a discreet intensity, but clearly adequately ripe. Not a wine to drink young as there is so much more to give.
