2022 Jean Claude Ramonet Mercurey Les Doues Blanc
We've sold out of this wine twice already this year, but we're able to get a bit more at our same great price. As mentioned, the 2022 Jean Claude Ramonet Mercurey Les Doues Blanc is a new cuvée for the domaine, with production of just 50 cases, and only a handful destined for the U.S., drawn from the Lieu Dit Les Doues site in Mercurey, featuring marl-limestone soils that are great for Chardonnay. It's one of the higher elevation vineyards of Meurcury, keeping it a bit cooler and retaining acidity very well. If a producer like Ramonet is going to play with a vineyard here, it has to be special, and this spot pairs very well with the Domaines' precise, mineral-driven, and transparent style, which brings out the best in the vineyard. The fruit was hand-picked, whole-cluster pressed, fermented with native yeasts in French oak, and raised about a year with a restrained touch of new wood before a light polish at bottling. The warm and balanced 2022 season shows lovely citrus and orchard fruit, white flowers, a cool herbal lift, and clean mineral length. It delivers unmistakable Ramonet clarity at a far more accessible price than the Chassagne holdings, making it a great buy for Ramonet. These are among the few bottles available in the USA, and this wine was just released.
